Series: Assembly Elections 2021

Tamil Nadu goes to polls on April 6th, with results to be declared on May 2. The high stakes election is set to witness a fight between the two main parties, DMK & AIADMK, and their allies pitted against each other. Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam, Seeman’s Naam Tamilar Katchi and TTV Dhinakaran’s Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam are some of the other parties in the fray. But as is common before any election, much of the discourse in the run up to voting day centres around the politics of the state and verbal slugfests between party leaders. But where do citizens of Chennai fit in, in all of this?

What is important for the people of Chennai to know as they approach voting day? What does the city need from its elected representatives? Do the latter’s campaign promises live up to those expectations?
